LP TO VILLARROYO: BLAME YOURSELF
Nacionalista standard-bearer Manuel Villar has no one but himself to blame why the public has remained skeptical about his sincerity and capability to lead the country, a ranking Liberal Party official said today.
LP Director General Chito Gascon said public apathy against Villar could be traced to the similarities in his and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s traits and style of governance.
“Nakikita ng ating mga kababayan na kung mananalo si Villar, ang susunod na administrasyon ay magiging continuation lang nitong Arroyo administration. Iyan ang totoo at hindi iyan maitatago ni Villarroyo,” he said.
He noted similarities between Villar and Arroyo were the key factors that convinced the public that the NP bet is the administration’s ‘secret’ presidential candidate, and not former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro.
He added even members of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD believe that a ‘Villarroyo’ unholy alliance has been forged.
Gascon said Villar and Arroyo are both liars, abusers of power, influence-peddlers and are persons without respect for accountability and delicadeza.
He said that like the president, Villar lied when he claimed in his campaign advertisement that his brother died due to poverty. Mrs. Arroyo was caught lying when she denied after the 2004 presidential elections that she talked with former Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano about the results of the polls in Mindanao.
He also noted how Villar abused his position and used his influence as Senate President to realign the C-5 road project to pass through his real estate properties, and subsequently refusing to answer the charges before the Senate Committee of the Whole, sending instead “spokespersons” to defend him.
Villar had also been buying the support of national and local officials for his presidential bid, as apparent by the continued transfer of administration allies to his Nacionalista Party.
“In these senses, a Villar victory is simply a continuation of Gloria. That’s the real implication of Villarroyo,” Gascon said.
