BET IN DRUG BUYBUST WAS NOT AN LP MEMBER
The Liberal Party today clarified that a candidate for mayor in Mandaluyong arrested in a drug buy-bust operation by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) last Friday was never a member of the LP. LP Secretary General and Cavite Rep. Joseph E.A. Abaya said Ernesto Domingo Buan is actually a member of Aksyon Demokratiko, a coalition partner of the LP. Abaya said the LP strongly agrees with Aksyon Demokratiko’s tough statement following Buan’s arrest that it will never condone any illegal or immoral act by its members, especially its candidates in the May 10 elections. Buan applied for but was not accepted by the LP membership selection committee, Abaya said. The LP issued the clarification following attempts by some sector to link Buan with the LP in an apparent bid to besmirch its good reputation and credibility among Filipinos.
